First Aid Training Course

On 18 of June, Ryan, Yee Yong and I went to the first aid course at the Singapore First Aid Training Centre.

Although I was stressed at first as I thought that it would be very hard to pass the tests, I soon realised that it was quite simple because of the instructors who guided us along the way.

We first learnt about the different components of a first aid kit, and the uses of them. With a bandage and gauze pad, we soon learnt the different ways on how we can use it. An example of that is creating an arm sling, or treating a fracture on the arm.

Afterwards, we also learnt the 3 degrees of burns and the ways to identify the degree of the burn.

We then took a test to evaluate our understanding on what we have learnt. Although the test was stressful as we had to prioritise serious injuries over the less serious ones among the different types of injuries our instructor gave us to treat, I managed to clear it.

Soon, it was our break, and we somehow managed to walk aimlessly to Maxwell Food Centre, where I managed to get some rice with scrambled eggs. The meal was extremely delicious, and we were prepared to embark on the second part of the course.

We then moved on to the most exciting part – which is to learn how to perform CPRs. Apart from that, we also learnt how to use an AED, and how to save a choking person. I was very stressed at the start because I was unsure on how to perform the CPR, but soon realised that it was easy and everyone can learn how to save someone using CPR. We have learnt how to use the AED, and the different dangers we had to take note of before we use it.

Lastly, we learnt how to aid someone in using Asthma inhalers and epipen, and were soon ready for the final tests.

The first test we took was a theory test where we had to answer some simple questions about what we had learnt. For the second test, we were more nervous as it was a practical test where we had to perform CPR. Thankfully, I managed to pass everything, and got first aid certified.

It was a fulfilling and enjoyable day as we learnt how to save the lives of people when needed. It would be an important skill to know, and we never know when we need it.
